Simmental Premier Tops at €7,000

The Simmental Society held its annual Premier Spring Sale at Roscommon Mart on Saturday March 23rd last.

Judging the presale show was Keith Nelson from the Scribby Farms pedigree herd in Rosslea, Co. Fermanagh.

In the Senior Bull section, Keith placed Lot 6 Ballycarra Porter ET as his overall Senior Champion. Ballycarra Porter Et exhibited by Jamie Reape, Bonniconlon, Co. Mayo went on the sell for the top price of the day at €7,000. This September `22 born bull is sired by Curaheen Warrior and is out of a Hillcrest Champion dam, Hillcrest Jacintha. (also in the photo are Ava Hallinan & Michael Reape)
The Reserve Senior Champion went to Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Co. Laois exhibiting Lot 11 Clonagh Prodigy.
This October `22 born bull who is out of herd sire Manor Park Hansome and a home bred Cairnview Snazzy dam Clonagh Luscious Katie sold for €4,500. 
The Junior Champion Lot 19 Rahugh Phoenix was exhibited by Ethan Watters, Grange, Co. Sligo. Sired by Lissadell Mr Mullarkey, this 15 month old bull is out of a Curaheen Apostle dam Magheracrigan Ivy. The selling price here was €4,200.
Hitting the €5,800 mark was Lot 13 selling for Sean Brady, Shantonagh, Co. Monaghan. Kilkitt Powerhouse was born in November `22 and is sired by Curaheen Gunshot P and is out of Kilkitt Jazzy who in turn is by Clonagh Frosty King.
Sean Brady was up again at €4,800 with Lot 31, Kilkitt Rocky P. Sired by Auroch Deuter PP this 13 month old bull is out of a Kilkitt Keep Her Lit dam Kilkitt Molly.

Other notable prices included:

€4500 to Lyndsey Behan for Lot 2 Jennalyn Pioneer, a Manor Park Hansome sired bull out of a Banwy T-Rex dam, JennalynGlitter Face ET
€4100 to Paddy & Elaine Hennelly for Lot 36 Seepa Rocky. Sired by Hillcrest Champion this bull is out of a Bel Dhu Capercaille dam, Seepa Gem.
€4100 to Garrett Behan for Lot 22 Clonagh Posh Pablo ET sired by Clonagh Legal Eagle and out of Cloneygowan Temptress Posh who is by Kilbride Farm Newry.
Lot 4 Clonagh Platinum Boy – Sold €4,000

***** In summary, the sale of bulls recorded a 55% clearance and an average price of €4230 which was up €20 *****

In the female section, which included a Draft of 5 females from the Breezy-Hill Herd, there was a 95% clearance with an average price of €3000 which was up €300 on the 2023 return

The Overall Champion Lot 38 Tisaran Nollaig ET, a Dirnanean Telstar sired heifer exhibited by Martin Mooney, Shannon Harbour, Co. Offaly remained unsold on the day.

However, the reserve Overall Champion Lot 54 Glynwood Roxane (photo) exhibited by Liam Connell, Athlone, Co. Westmeath sold for €3,700. This 13 month old heifer is sired by Dermotstown Delboy and is out of a Seepa Fionn sired homebred dam, Glynwood Jane.

The top price in the female section of €4,700 came from the draft section exhibited by Aonghus Foley, Grenagh, Co. Cork. Breezy-Hill Natalie a March `21 born Curaheen Tyson sired first calved heifer is out of a Clonagh Direct Debit homebred dam Breezy-Hill Jinx and sold with a three week old Tiset Darwin heifer calf at foot.

Aonghus Foley also recorded the second highest price of €4,100 with the last heifer of the day through the ring Breezy-Hill Razmataz. This 12 month old heifer is sired by Glebefarm Tyson and is a half sister to Natalie with Breezy-Hil Jinx as dam.

Selling at €3,900 was Lot 41 Bridgemount Parama P for William O`Riordan, Rathcormac, Co. Cork. This October `22 born heifer is sired by Limehill Master PP and is out of Bridgemounbt Kay, a homebred Seepa Tee-Jay dam.
Hitting the €3,500 mark was Lot 39 Thornford Pretty Wee Alice exhibited by Ryan & Sean Callan, Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan. Born in January `22, this maiden heifer is sired by Dermotstown Delboy and is out of a Hillcrest King dam, Drehid Alice

Also selling at €3,500 was Lot 50 Treen Robin for Myles McHale, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Sired by Seafort Gill, this 15 month old heifer is out of a Derreen Jack dam, Derreen Margot.

Myles McHale also sold Lot 51 Treen Rosie at 3,300. Rosie was also 15 months old and again out of Seafort Gill and a derreen Jack dam, Derreen Megan 

Selling at 3,200 was Lot 46 Theswan Peace Lily for Barry & Brian Fleming, Athy, Co. Laois. This December `22 born maiden heifer is out of Saltire Impressive and a homebred Curaheen Vio dam, Theswan Fantasia.
Lot 47 Bridgemount Pippa P – Sold €3,000
