The Southern Simmental Club held its January Bull & Heifer Calf Finals at Bantry Show this year. 33 Simmentals were exhibited on a lovely, sunny day at the Airstrip Showgrounds in Bantry, West Cork with Sean McGarry of the Clonguish Herd judging.
The days Champion went to Peter & Marion O’Connell of the Raceview Herd with their cow “Raceview Winty Matilda” & her heifer calf “Raceview Evita Winty” at foot. “Winty Matilda” won the Supreme Breed Championships at Cork, Barryroe & Limerick whilst she also won the National Senior Cow Championship at Tullamore Show.
The days Reserve Champion also went to the O’Connells with the September born heifer, “Raceview Dreamer Royal Beauty”. Having won the Southern Simmental September Heifer Calf Championship at Barryroe Show earlier in the year, she was placed first in a very strong September Heifer Class.
The main event for the day was the Southern Milling January Calf Finals, the two classes were very competitive & even with some fantastic cattle brought forward by the Southern Club Breeders. The results were as follows:
