Champion Heifer sells for €10500 at Simmental Premier Show and Sale.

For the second year running the Neenan Brothers from Ballyhaunis took the limelight at the Simmental Premier Show and Sale held at Roscommon Mart. This year it was “Fearna Countess Jubilee” judged the Overall Female Champion by UK Judge Michael Barlow selling for top price of €10500.

This March `11 born heifer is sired by “Hillcrest Jerome” and out of their homebred “Milton Lord Tiffany” cow “Fearna Tiffany”. “Fearna Countess Jubilee” was jointly purchased by Joe Campbell, Strabane, Co. Tyrone and Brian Allen, Glenturk, Scotland.

The Senior Male Champion went to “Jennalyn Charlie Rose” exhibited by Lyndsey Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise. This September `11 born bull was sired by “Banwy T-Rex” and out of a “Marblehill Liam” homebred dam Jennalyn Tara Rose. David Thompson, Ballymena, Co. Antrim was the buyer at €4400.

The Reserve Senior Male Champion and sharing top bull price of €5000 went to Denis O`Halloran, Tulla, Co. Clare with “Tulla Classic”. Thomas Kerin, Bellharbour, Co. Clare purchased this “Kilbride Farm Newry” son, out of “Tulla Venessa” a homebred dam by Ballyduff Jeweller.

Noel Forde from Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon exhibited the Junior Bull Champion “Coolatinny Dell Boy”. Sired by “Curaheen Tyson” this January `12 born bull was out of a “Hurtig” dam “Lisnacrann Thelma”. Gordan McFarland, Newtownsteward, Co. Tyrone was the purchaser at €4000.

Two more bulls hit the €5000 mark sharing top price. First up was Lot 4 “Raceview Carlos” exhibited by Joe & Sean McGarry, Clonguish, Co. Longford. Sired by “Kilbride Farm Newry” this September `11 bull was out of a “Seabank Flint” dam “Raceview Wewry Matilda” and sold to Michael Smyth, Castlewellan, Co. Down.

Next at €5000 was “Raceview Damascus Kim” a January `12 “Raceview King” sired bull exhibited by Peter & Marion O`Connell, Mallow, Co. Cork. Raymond Wallace, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh purchased this bull out of the “Ballingar Franco” dam “Ballingar Kim”.

Other prices included:
€3500 to Seamus Aherne, Cappamore, Co. Limerick for “Towerhill Cupid” sired by “Glebefarm Tyson”.
€3400 to Joe & Sean McGarry, Newtownforbes, Co. Longford for “Clonguish Clancey” sired by “Richardstown Jumbo”.

€3000 for “Curaheen Dominator” sired by “Curaheen Warrior” sold by David Wall, Newcastle, Co. Dublin.

Overall the trade for bulls was slower than in the corresponding sale last year, but one very positive aspect was that demand was certainly more quality driven with a number of customers going home without purchasing having ran up some of the top lots. Bull prices ranged between €1900 and €5000 with an average of €3100.

The Reserve Female Champion went to Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise with “Clonagh Diamond Eyes”. This January `12 heifer is sired by “Banwy T-Rex” and out of a “Rosten Barney” dam “Milton Senhorita”. Noel Farrell, Cashel purchased this heifer at €5000.

Next highest price of €4600 in the heifer section went to Paddy & Elaine Hennelly, Rosses Point, Sligo for their January `12 born heifer “Seepa Dee”. This heifer sired by ”Rosten Barney” and out of a homebred “Hamlet” dam “Seepa Annabelle” was purchased by JJ & JM Sanders, Newcastle, England.
