DOVEA GENETICS SPONSORED NATIONAL SIMMENTAL CALF FINALS 2026

The Irish Simmental Cattle Society returned to the Ploughing Championship again this year to hold their Dovea Genetics Sponsored National Calf Finals. A packed marquee of quality calves attracted a lot of attention all morning with exhibitors focused on preparation for the showring. Judging these finals was Richard Rodgers who runs the Hiltonstown Pedigree Simmental Herd from Portglenone, Co. Antrim.

The five National Titles on the day went to exhibitors from Mayo, Cork, Monaghan, Carlow and Longford which further highlights the appeal of these National Calf Finals.

NATIONAL POLLED SIMMENTAL BULL/HEIFER CALF

Taking the National Champion Polled Calf was Fearna Vibrant P for Gerry Neenan, Coolnafearna, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. This January born heifer calf is sired by Coose Napeloen P and is out of an Anatrim Bodybuilder sired dam, Cobbib Nichole ET.

National Polled Calf Champion – Fearna Vibrant P exhibited by Gerry Neenan pictured with Enda Dooley Dovea Genetics, Richard Rodgers judge, Willie O`Halloran President ISCS and Anna & Ellen Neenan.

Placed as the reserve Polled Champion was Thornford Vienna PP for the Callan Brothers from Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan. Born in February this Curaheen Gunshot P sired heifer calf is out of Thornford Juliette P a Kilbride Farm Gernot PP dam.

NATIONAL SENIOR SIMMENTAL BULL CALF

The National Senior Bull Calf Championship went to Co. Cork breeder, William O`Riordan with Bridgemount Vincy. Based just outside Rathcromac, this December bull calf of Williams is sired by Coose Lincoln ET and is out of a Lisnacran Fifty Cents dam Bridgemount Karry.

Looscaun Top Notch P was places as the reserve Senior Bull Champion for Mary Stewart, Woodford, Co. Galway. This Curaheen Gunshot P sired December bull calf is out of a Monor Park Hansome dam Jennalyn Lolita Posh ET.

NATIONAL SIMMENTAL JUNIOR BULL CALF

In the Junior Bull Calf class for calves born from February onwards victory went to Clastleblaney exhibitor Sean Brady with Kilkitt Vladimir. This February born calf is sired by Coose Lincoln Et and is out of Kilkitt Molly who in turn is sired by Kilkitt Keep It Lit.

3. National Junior Bull Calf Champion – Kilkitt Vladimir exhibited by Adam Brady pictured with Sean Brady, Willie O`Halloran President ISCS, Enda Dooley Dovea Genetics Richard Rodgers judge

Bearna-Dherag Victorious P stood as the reserve Junior bull Champion for the O`Halloran Family, Chamberlainstown, Cahir, Co. Tipperary. Victorious P is sired by Coose Jericho P ond out of a Milnafua Graduate dam Mohona Honey.

NATIONAL SENIOR SIMMENTAL HEIFER CALF

Nigel Hogan, Tullow, Co. Carlow took home the National Senior Heifer Championship with Rathnashan Vixen. Born in January this Saltire Impressive sired heifer is Rathnashan Harriet ET, a Kilbride Farm Delboy dam.

Ballyk Tina Head Turner ET was placed as the Reserve Senior Heifer Calf for Marie Walsh, Ballykeeran, Co. Westmeath. This December born heifer calf is sired by Curaheen Warrior ET and is out of a Kilbride Farm Newry dan Corbally Classic Vintage.

NATIONAL JUNIOR SIMMENTAL HEIFER CALF

The last class of the day saw the National Junior Heifer Championship go to the McGarry Family, Newtownforbes, Co. Longford with Clonguish Velvet. This February heifer calf is sired by Coose Lincoln ET and is out of a Kilbride Farm Bantry dam Carbery Nikita.

Taking the Reserve Junior Heifer award was Ava & Billy Cronin, Drumcollogher, Co. Limerick with Brideland Vogue. Sired by Ranfurly Klinker, this February heifer is out of Brideland Nutmeg an Auchorachan Hercules dam.
