Top of €11,000 for Simmental at Tullamore Sale

The last Irish Simmental Society Spring Sale of the season was held in Tullamore on last Saturday May 8th. A year record price of €11,000 was achieved up from a top of €3,000 at this sale last year. A noticeable feature of the sale was the keen demand for the top quality lots with many potential customers going home without a bull having failed in an attempt to purchase some of the top lots.

Top price of €11,000 was paid for the male champion “Auroch Ace” exhibited by David Wall Jnr from Newcastle, Co. Dublin. This “Hillcrest Champion” sired bull was out of a “Raceview King” sired dam “Raceview Misty Jade”. Gerald & Morag Smith (Drumsleed Simmentals) Scotland are the new owners of this 12 month old bull.

The reserve Champion exhibited by Angela & Gerard Brickley, Coolrain, Co. Laois sold for second highest price of €4000 to Tom Bruton, Dunboyne, Co. Meath. “Celtic A-Bull” was sired by “Celtic Vicar” and out of a homebred “Hillcrest Champion” dam

Other bull prices included:

  • €3000 to John Finnegan, Coachford, Co. Cork for a “Celtic Highflyer” sired bull purchased by Raymond Wallace, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.
  • €2800 to John Brady, Swinford, Co. Mayo for a bull by “Seaview Tommy” purchased by William & Jenny Cotter, Dripsey, Co. Cork.
  • €2400 to Patrick Murphy, Clareen, Co. Offaly from Authur Murray, Co. Armagh for a “Monaduff Legend” sired bull.

A larger than usual entry of bulls for this sale resulted in a 50% clearance with prices ranging between €11000 & €1500, with an average price of €2640

In the female section, there was again a 50% clearance with prices ranging between €3350 and €1200 selling to an average price of €1850. Top price went to the reserve champion female “Broomfield Wee Nina” sold by Paul McArdle, Broomfield, Castleblaney Co. Monaghan. Sired by “Hillcrest Champion”, out of a “Jennalyn Luckyduff” dam and in-calf to “Omorga Volvo”, “Wee Nina” was purchased by Eamon McCluskey, Kilrea, Co. Derry for €3350.

The champion was exhibited by William & Jenny Cotter, Dripsey, Co. Cork. “Dripsey Wing Girl” sired by “Camus Vibrant” was unsold failing to reach her reserve.
