Strong Trade with good clearance at Tullamore Simmental Sale

Male Champion 'Cruithill Banker'

 

There was a very brisk trade at last Saturdays Simmental Sale, with quality bulls in keen demand. Bulls averaged €2600 with a 74% clearance.

Overall Male Champion and top price of the day of €4700 went to Ray Bracken, Tullamore for his 13 month old bull “Cruithill Banker”. Sired by his own stock bull “Curaheen Wakeman” and out of a “Ballybane Lad” dam “Ballybane Pauline” the champion was purchased by Moira Lavin, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon.
The Reserve Champion Male went to Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise with “Clonagh A T Tiger”. William Smith, Geashill, Tullamore paid €4100 for this “Banwy T-Rex” sired bull which was out of a homebred “Freighduff Brendan” dam.

Other notable bull prices were:

  • €3400 to Lyndsey Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise from Peter Lambe, Navan for a “Milton Viceroy” sired bull.
  • €3300 to Garrett Behan, for a “Monaduff Legend” bull from Stephan McCann, Randelstown, Co. Antrim.
  • €3000 to Angela & Gerard Brickley, Coolrain, Portlaoise, for a “Curaheen Tyson” bull from Kevin McManus, Enniskillen.
  • €2900 to Lyndsey Behan from Peadar Cullen, Drinagh, Co. Wexford for a “Banwy T-Rex son.
  • €2700 to Elizabeth Ormiston, Mullagh, Co. Cavan for a “Drumnagar Vicroy” sired bull from Martin Caherty, Newtownhamilton, Co. Armagh.
  • €2700 to Angela & Gerard Brickley for a “Celtic Rock” bull from Raymond Wallace, Enniskillen.

In a smaller than usual heifer section, there was 10 out of the 12 heifers sold to an average price of €2360.

Judge Raymond O`Malley, Ardee also gave the Female Champion & Reserve to Raymond Bracken, Tullamore. The Champion Heifer “Cruithill Blondie” was a 12 month old heifer by his stockbull “Curaheen Wakeman” and out of a “Ballybane Henry” dam “Ballybane Nollaig”. She was sold for top heifer price of €4000 to Patrick Buckley, Tullamore. The Reserve Champion “Cruithill Britney” again by his stockbull “Curaheen Wakeman” was by a “Corah Leader” dam “Ballybane Rosy” James Muldowney, Thurles purchased this heifer at €3100.

Other prices included:

  • €2600 to Raymond Bracken, for a “Curaheen Wakeman” heifer from Seamus Hennessy, Poles, Co. Cavan.
  • €2500 to Mattie & Gabriel McDonald, Camolin, Co. Wexford for a “Glebefarm Tyson” sired heifer from Francis McCaul, Shercock, Co. Cavan.

Top of €11,000 for Simmental at Tullamore Sale

 

The last Irish Simmental Society Spring Sale of the season was held in Tullamore on last Saturday May 8th. A year record price of €11,000 was achieved up from a top of €3,000 at this sale last year. A noticeable feature of the sale was the keen demand for the top quality lots with many potential customers going home without a bull having failed in an attempt to purchase some of the top lots.

 

Top price of €11,000 was paid for the male champion “Auroch Ace” exhibited by David Wall Jnr from Newcastle, Co. Dublin. This “Hillcrest Champion” sired bull was out of a “Raceview King” sired dam “Raceview Misty Jade”. Gerald & Morag Smith (Drumsleed Simmentals) Scotland are the new owners of this 12 month old bull.

 

The reserve Champion exhibited by Angela & Gerard Brickley, Coolrain, Co. Laois sold for second highest price of €4000 to Tom Bruton, Dunboyne, Co. Meath. “Celtic A-Bull” was sired by “Celtic Vicar” and out of a homebred “Hillcrest Champion” dam

 

Other bull prices included:

  • €3000 to John Finnegan, Coachford, Co. Cork for a “Celtic Highflyer” sired bull purchased by Raymond Wallace, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.
  • €2800 to John Brady, Swinford, Co. Mayo for a bull by “Seaview Tommy” purchased by William & Jenny Cotter, Dripsey, Co. Cork.
  • €2400 to Patrick Murphy, Clareen, Co. Offaly from Authur Murray, Co. Armagh for a “Monaduff Legend” sired bull.

 

A larger than usual entry of bulls for this sale resulted in a 50% clearance with prices ranging between €11000 & €1500, with an average price of €2640

 

In the female section, there was again a 50% clearance with prices ranging between €3350 and €1200 selling to an average price of €1850. Top price went to the reserve champion female “Broomfield Wee Nina” sold by Paul McArdle, Broomfield, Castleblaney Co. Monaghan. Sired by “Hillcrest Champion”, out of a “Jennalyn Luckyduff” dam and in-calf to “Omorga Volvo”, “Wee Nina” was purchased by Eamon McCluskey, Kilrea, Co. Derry for €3350.

 

The champion was exhibited by William & Jenny Cotter, Dripsey, Co. Cork. “Dripsey Wing Girl” sired by “Camus Vibrant” was unsold failing to reach her reserve.
