2nd Kilkenny Bull Sale Report
The second Kilkenny Bull Sale took place on Wednesday 17th April with 26 Pedigree Simmental Bulls catalogued.
Topping the trade at €2,750 was Pre-Sale Champion ‘Anatrim Dynamo 2’ from David Brickley, Coolrain, Portlaoise. This February 2012 born bull was by Anatrim Viva out of an Anatrim Jacob daughter, Anatrim Theresa.
Next highest price went to Hugh Murray, Parkwood, Moate for his Banwy T-Rex son ‘Shiloh Chamber’ selling at €2,700. This October 2011 born bull was out of a Raceview King daughter, Shiloh Whisper ET and had a high maternal value of €126. He was also a third prizewinner in the pre sale show.
Reserve Champion ‘Celtic Duke’ from Angela Brickley, Coolrain, Portlaoise sold for €2,500. This February 2012 bull was by Lykke Sirius P out of a Hillcrest Jerome daughter Celtic Winnifred ET.
Also selling at this price was Bridgemount Chris from William & Marie O’Riordan, Kilbrien, Rathcormac. This Kilbride Farm Newry son was born in October 2011 out of a Curaheen Tyson daughter, Bridgemount Bluebell. He sold with a high maternal value of €165.
Matthew Mc Donald, Camolin, Enniscorthy received €2,450 for his Omorga Volvo son, Kilcloran Clyde. This September 2011 born bull was out of a homebred Kilcloran Philip daughter, Kilcloran Tess.
Following on from this Mr. Mc Donald also received €2,400 for an October 2011 bull, Kilcloran Carter. This Celtic Rock son was out of a Hurtig daughter, Kilcloran Rosaleen.
Also selling at this money was Bridgemount Dillon from William & Marie O’Riordan. This January 2012 bull was by Glebefarm Tyson out of a Hillcrest Champion daughter, Castlelyons Rainbow.
Overall bulls traded between €1,800 and €2,750 with a higher entry and clearance rate than the March sale.
The next Kilkenny Bull Sale will take place on Wednesday 15th May.

The first 2013 Show and Sale of Simmental Bulls in Kilkenny took place on Wednesday 20th March. This saw good demand for quality bulls with emphasis on easy calving and maternal figures.
Leading the days trade at €3,600 was a Banwy T-Rex son, Clonagh Devilishly Charming from Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise. This January 2012 bull was out of an FBX cow, Clonagh Norma and sold with five star maternal figures €167.
Next best also from the Behan family was the pre sale Champion ‘Clonagh Captain Flint’ selling for €3,100. He was born in September 2011 and was by Seabank Flint out of a Banwy T-Rex daughter Clonagh Angelina.
The Reserve Champion ‘Towerhill Callaghan’ from Seamus Aherne, Cappamore, Co. Limerick was unsold, failing to meet his reserve.
Selling at €2,500 was Third prizewinner ‘Celtic Corrib’ from Angela Brickley, Coolrain, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. This December 2011 Curaheen Tyson son is out of a Celtic Rock daughter Celtic Tiny and sold with a €140 maternal value.
Clonagh Captain Flashtastic by Banwy T-Rex sold for €2,450 with a maternal value of €147. He is out of a Cleenagh Flasher daughter Clonagh Wanda’s Flash.
Ballyedmond Casey from Tom O’Riordan, Midelton, Co.Cork sold for €2,400. This September 2011 born bull was by Kilbride Farm Newry out of a Hillcrest King daughter Brownstone Jenny. He again boasted a high maternal value of €149.
The next Kilkenny Bull Sale takes place on Wednesday 17th April with 26 Pedigree Simmental Bulls entered and should be in the sale ring at approximately 2pm.
