Steady Trade at Simmental Premier Show & Sale
The top priced bull and the National Reserve Yearling Champion went to “Dripsey Willard” exhibited by William & Jenny Cotter, Dripsey Co. Cork. Sired by “Camus Vibrant” and out of a “Raceview King” sired dam “Raceview Princess Kim”, “Willard” was purchased by Bertie Houston, Newtowncunningham, Co. Donegal for €4500.
The Yearling Champion was exhibited by Denis O`Halloran, Tulla, Co. Clare. “Tulla Walace” sired by “Kilbride Farm Newry” was purchased by Richard Woodmartin, Woodville, Co. Sligo for €3000. Third place in the Yearling Championship went to John Fox, Kilfinane Co. Limerick with “Castlegale Watson”. Sired by “Carnkern Titan” he was purchased by David Montgomery, Bessmount, Co. Monaghan for €2500.
Other notable bull prices included:
- €3400 to Tom O`Riordan, Midleton, Co. Cork for a son of “Kilbride Farm Newry
- €3000 to Jennie Aherne, Cappamore, Co. Limerick for a “Glebefarm Tyson” son.
- €2900 to John Fox, Kilinane, Co. Limerick for a “Carnkern Titan” sired bull.
- €2800 to Derek Costello, Drogheda, Co. Louth for a bull by “Raceview Tiger Karla”
Overall in the bull section there was a 60% clearance of the 47 bulls on offer with an average price of €2350 compared to an average of €2510 in `08.
In the heifer section which included a draft of females from Peter & Marion O`Connells “Raceview Simmentals”, the average price for heifers was €2730, up from €2460 in `08 with an 80% clearance. The top price of €6500 was got by Peter & Marion O`Connell, Mallow, Co. Cork for “Raceview Abbey Princess”. The “Kilbride Farm Newry” heifer was purchased by Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise. Second highest price was paid for the reserve Junior Champion exhibited by Paddy & Elaine Hennelly, Rosses Point, Co. Sligo. This “Sacombe Wishful Thinking” sired heifer was bought by Padge Mulhare, Cloghan, Co. Offaly. Other female prices included:
