3rd Spring Sale, Roscommon, May 12th, 2017 – Super Trade for Commercial Simmental Heifers

The Last Simmental Society Sale at Roscommon on Friday May 12th saw 14 Pedigree Bulls and 90
Simmental X Heifers for sale.

The Simmental X Heifers sold first and started with two In-Calf Heifers selling for €2630 & €2000
respectively.

The trade for Maiden Heifers ready for serving straight away was very strong with a top
of €2080 for a 560kg heifer (€3.71/Kg) sold by Frank Mulligan, Creggs. Ray Bracken, Tullamore
received €1810 for a 500 kg heifer (€3.62/kg).€1700 was the selling price of a 470kg heifer for Ciaran
Clarke, Strokestown (€361/kg). John Harrington, Cork got (€3.57/kg) for his 475 kg maiden selling at
€1700. Seamus Allen, Dunhill, Waterford offered 10 maiden heifers for sale and topped at €1710 for
a 14 month old heifer weighing 485kgs (€3.52/kg). Martin Doohan, Lissycasey, Ennis hit the
(€3.55/kg) mark when selling a 450kg heifer at €1600.

Overall there was a 92% clearance of heifers with prices of over €3/kg) freely available for quality lots.

In the Pedigree Bull Section there was 14 bulls offered for sale with 8 finding new homes topping at
€2800 for a 16 month old bull ‘Doire-Goile Hugo’ sold by John Storey, Mountmellick. Sired by
Kilbride Farm Delboy and out of a homebred cow, Doire-Goile Diana, this Class Winner was
purchased by Brian Ward, Kidlawn, Ballinasloe.

The Champion Bull on the night was also exhibited by John Storey and sold for €2700. ‘Doire-Goile
Hughie’ another Kilbride Farm Delboy son was purchased by Kevin McNamee, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim.

The Reserve Champion ‘Littlerock Hurricane’ was exhibited by Benny McNamara, Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare and remained unsold as a direct result of his star rating.

Frank Kelly, Tyrrellspass, hit the €2500 mark with ‘Newcastle Harold’ a Glebefarm Tyson son selling to Padraig
Clancy, Grange, Co. Sligo.

Two bulls made €2400 with Denis O`Halloran, Tulla, Co. Clare getting €2400 for a 13 month old twin bull ‘Tulla Hilltop PP’ sired by Promi PP and selling to John Fleming, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.

Also selling at €2400 was ‘Croked-Tree Hawk’ for Eamon Donoghue, Glasson, Athlone. Again sired by Kilbride Farm Delboy this bull was purchased by Adrian Kelly, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.
